How To Backup Your Files Using Deja Dup [Ubuntu] Part-1

How To Backup Your Files Using Deja Dup [Ubuntu] Part-1: "

Ubuntu 11.10 is going to come with a backup tool – Deja Dup – by default. Using Deja Dup is not difficult. In this article, I will explain how you can use Deja Dup to back up the files in your Ubuntu machine.

Installation

Before we get to how to use it, here is how to install Deja Dup in Ubuntu. Deja Dup is in the Ubuntu main repository. So to install it, open the Terminal and execute the command,

$ sudo apt-get install deja-dup

After the installation, you can find Deja Dup using the Dash in Ubuntu 11.04. If you are using an earlier version of Ubuntu or the Classic Desktop in Ubuntu 11.04, you will find Deja Dup under Applications > System Tools.

Backing up files

Before you start using Deja Dup, you need to set it up first. Run the application Deja Dup Backup Preferences. Under the tab, Storage, you have to specify the backup location. Deja Dup supports backup to local folder, Amazon S3, Rackspace Cloud, FTP, SSH, WebDAV and Windows Share. Pick the backup location – most of the users will backup to local folder. For added security, it is recommended that you check the box next to Encrypt backup files.

If you pick Local Folder, select the folder where you want to store the backups. It is recommended that you select a folder on a different hard disk from the one you are taking the the backup. Also note that the backup files might require a large memory. So, make sure there is enough space available in the backup folder.

Now that we have set up the backup location, we need to select the folders we want to back up of. To do that, click on the next tab, Files. There are two fields – Include files in folders and Except files in folder. In the first field, you can select the folders of which you want to take back up of. Deja Dup will take backups of all the files inside the folder and those in the sub folders. The second field can be used to exclude sub-folders inside the folders included in the first field from being backed up.

The next step is to decide if you want to do either a manual backup or an automatic backup. Choosing automatic backup means that you have to schedule the backup and select how long Deja Dup holds on to the backup files. For those details and how to restore the files, read the second part of this coming up soon.

10 Funniest Fake Apple Products

10 Funniest Fake Apple Products: "

Apple is a technology manufacturing giant, and it has remained strong in the past decade. Ever since the entry of the infamous iPod into the market, more of the “i” products were introduced. The iPhone and the iPad have made it into the list of the most-coveted gadgets, and every version keeps getting better.

As with any other gadget, the novelty causes a string of fake replicas. They can be copied perfectly from the original, often retaining the unique characteristics that make an Apple product genuine. However, it is usually quite a laugh to see some fake Apple products. Here are 10 of the most hilarious Apple replicas ever invented:

1. iPhone 3G Slider

clip_image002

It looks like an iPhone with a sleek touch-sensitive screen. But then again, it has a nice keyboard to make the look more complex.

2. iChat

clip_image004

If such thing as iChat was ever legalized by Apple, FaceTime would have never made it big. It would have been believable, but it may not be well-accepted by the consumers.

3. iArm

clip_image006

This would have been pretty cool, as even the iPad can be placed along your arm. Sadly, it was never confirmed to be an Apple original. Some people also think that it is plain ridiculous.

4. iPhone Nano

clip_image008

It would have been another great idea, but it sure would not be an original Apple creation. Think of it as a mini iPhone, only that it is fake. If you want a cool phone that can be attached to your belt, buy an iPhone and an iPod instead. In this case, it would be better to use two separate things.

5. iWatch Touch

clip_image010

Even watches are not spared from fake manufacturing. How do you think will you tap the miniature screen with your finger? If this became a hit device, major watch companies will be given a run for their money.

6. MacTab

clip_image012

It looks chic, sophisticated, but it is fake in all aspects. Even if this was never confirmed, it would have been a pretty sexy creation, and one which everybody would like to own. It is sleeker, thinner and more elegant than the traditional MacBook.

7. MacBook Nano

clip_image014

This is another brilliant parody of the MacBook, and it certainly does look cute. If you want a smaller computer, just get a netbook and save yourself from the hassle of owning a fake product.

8. iHand

clip_image016

Who would have thought that Apple would create robot-like gadgets? If this works, it will take the whole world by storm, and it will require people to cut their real hands off. The tagline “The hand, evolved” is just like saying “your real hand, removed”.

9. iBox

clip_image018

Is a set of Apple-created gaming consoles cool? Maybe, if it were real! Apple would make a fresh innovation if this wild idea indeed came from them.

10. iPhone ATM

clip_image020

This is probably the most hilarious and the most impossible of the whole lot. An iPhone with a built-in ATM sounds way too unbelievable. As of this millennium, online banking still wins the hearts of the public.

These are just some of the many fake Apple products made by bored manufacturers and jealous contenders. Although they look like the real thing, you should only purchase original gadgets; otherwise you will only waste your money in buying something with mediocre quality. Rather than spending less on something that will not last long, why not invest your money with something that is sure to last?

This update is numbered DDJV6 and it is currently available only via Samsung Kies. Sadly, this update is not available via OTA (Over-The-Air).

This update will upgrade the Samsung Galaxy S to Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) and it will bring a lot of improvements and bug fixes. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy SL will receive the Android 2.3 update during the first or second week of July. Stay tuned for more updates.
